This is a design for a small alleyway skatepark created in Unreal Engine. Alley-built skateparks have been growing in popularity, so I decided to design my own interpretation of one! The video showcases a walkthrough of the environment, demonstrating how Unreal Engine can provide a far more interactive and immersive way for communities to experience a proposed local skatepark design. Traditionally, skatepark concepts are presented through CAD drawings or SketchUp renders, but allowing people to freely explore a highly detailed 3D version of the space creates a more dynamic and impactful presentation that can generate greater excitement and anticipation for the project.
The park features a small bank, two ledges, a round flat bar, an approachable low quarter pipe, a hip with an attached A-frame ledge, and a compact half bowl. The environment is set within a historic downtown alleyway, with trees providing shade and atmosphere throughout the space.
The environment was modeled in Blender and exported into Unreal Engine, utilizing a combination of Quixel assets and textures alongside custom meshes and materials. The interactive experience is powered by an advanced first-person locomotion system. Substance Painter was used for the orange benches.
