A Unreal Engine 5 environment! The goal was to create a prairie/mesa environment, that had a tranquil "early morning" type of feeling. While using the Horses to use as compositional elements, and to breath live into the scene. I started with Quadspinner Gaea, making the separate landscapes. Then brought those into Blender and arranged them in the matter I was envisioning. After this I set up the angle I wanted the environment to be viewed from and set up reference humans through out the environment to help with sense of scale. Next, I created a set of materials in Quixel Mixer. Following this, I displaced the immediate surrounding ground, where the camera is set up, To add extra depth where its needed. Since I dont alter my UV map after displacing, I can paint it on later in UE, and it will match up perfectly. I did this to preserve the Texel Density of the ground. Next I set up everything in UE, imported all the meshes I needed, and set up rudimentary lighting, close to what I wanted the final product to be. Then, I made the materials for the background meshes, which I blended in engine, based on the masks Gaea provided me. After this I set up the foreground ground material, which blended based on both materials height maps. I painted it on the foreground and started set dressing, adding the bushes, cactus, rocks, etc. and customized a Quixel megascan rock to blend into the ground in the foreground. Then I brought in the horses I got from the UE marketplace, and set up composite animations for them, so that they are not repeating the same animations. Lastly I brought in Ultra Dynamic Sky, and set it up to match the lighting I was envisioning.
